Completely Rebuild Your Gorgeous Smile

While modern dentures are more lifelike and comfortable than ever, traditional restorations that hold their place in the mouth with adhesives or natural suction can leave a lot to be desired. Thankfully, implant dentures can be a fantastic way to replace lost teeth while preserving the health of the jawbone and maximizing chewing power. Here’s a quick look at how implant dentures work and who they can help, but please feel free to contact the team at Woodside Dental Care if you would like to know more.

What Are Implant Dentures?
An implant denture is a lifelike dental restoration designed to replace a complete arch of real teeth secured to titanium pieces surgically inserted into the patient’s jawbone. Since titanium possesses the remarkable ability to fuse with living bone tissue, these pieces (called dental implants) will gradually bond with the jawbone, creating the sturdy foundation the restorations need to exert maximum chewing power and last much longer than traditional dentures. After a brief consultation at our Woodside office, our dentist may recommend:
Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures
Fixed implant dentures are designed to remain attached to the dental implants at all times. One of these is typically mounted on four to six strategically placed dental implants, and the patient will have to have sufficient jawbone density to support them.
Removable Implant Dentures
These restorations are designed to be detached from the dental implants for hygiene purposes. Since they usually only require two to five dental implants, they may be a great option for those with low jawbone density.
The Implant Denture Process
The team at Woodside Dental Care is trained and equipped to complete the entire dental implant placement process in-house so you won’t have to worry about seeing a specialist. The treatment includes four steps, those being:
- Consultation: Our dentist will examine your mouth and determine the best way to replace your lost teeth. If implant dentures are the most suitable option, we’ll schedule you for surgery.
- Surgery: After administering an appropriate anesthetic, our periodontist will surgically insert small titanium rods into the jawbone through incisions made in the gum tissue.
- Abutments: Several months after surgery, you will come back to our office so abutment pieces can be attached to your implants and measurements can be taken of your mouth.
- Restoration: A few weeks later, you’ll return to our office so we can fix your customized restoration in place before sending you on your way to enjoy your new smile.
Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?
Most adults who are free from oral infections and healthy enough to undergo minor surgery can be excellent candidates for implant dentures. If you have oral infections, we’ll be happy to address them with gum disease therapy or another restorative treatment so you can become an excellent candidate later, and we can also refer you to a specialist for bone grafts if necessary. Health conditions like pregnancy, diabetes, cancer, hemophilia, and osteoporosis can complicate the implant process, but they won’t necessarily disqualify you. Please be thorough when discussing your medical history during your consultation at our office.
